SUSPENDED — Detroit pulls the plug, and the meter starts

Well, folks, it happened — and it happened fast. On Wednesday, this kid Larkin informed the Red Wings he would no longer play for the team while he waits for a trade. His agent, Pat Brisson, put it plainly: "Dylan's had enough of the situation." Detroit's answer arrived Thursday, October 29, in a statement from interim GM Shawn Horcoff: "Dylan Larkin has informed us that he will no longer play for the Detroit Red Wings. We are disappointed by his decision, particularly given his obligations to the organization and his teammates. We have therefore suspended Dylan without pay." He stays suspended — no paycheque, no roster spot — until a trade is worked out. The cost, per TSN and Daily Faceoff: $41,237.11 for every day of the suspension. So the meter is live, folks. The meter on the homepage started the evening of October 29, Detroit time — the hour Detroit announced the suspension — and it runs until the day the suspension ends — the day he's traded, or the day Detroit puts him back on the ice.
